Pick an Organic Hair Shampoo!
I am very committed to using organic products, but for a while I really struggled to find a hair shampoo that worked for me. Part of the problem is that I used to be very attached to the way that my shampoo lathered. The challenge is that most organic shampoos just don’t provide the same type of suds that their chemically laden counterparts have.
Once I understood the reason for this, I began to feel a bit different about the situation. The reason that most shampoos have such a nice lather to them is that they are loaded with sulfates. Unfortunately, sulfates are a very harsh chemical substance that is really not something that you want to be putting on your body.
Research uses sulfates quite often. Specifically, they use them as a skin irritant when researching the effectiveness of products to heal and calm the skin. Sulfates are also a key ingredient in engine degreasers and commercial cleaners.
Sulfates not only cause skin irritation, they also can cause serious eye problems. Believe it or not, some research indicates that sulfates in shampoo can actually lead to hair loss in some people! Many experts believe that they may also be toxic enough to lead to other health problems thanks to the fact that they are so readily absorbed into the skin.
One of the key things to remember when choosing a shampoo is to choose one that is sulfate free, like all of the ones that are produced by Modern Organic Products.
Parabens are something else that you want to steer clear of when choosing an organic shampoo. They are used as preservatives but some research has linked parabens to breast cancer in women and low sperm counts in men. Although they are found in small amounts in most products, it would seem that they build up in the body over time.
